Monday Morning in the Bog

Monday Evening in the Bog! 7/6/20

I couldn’t post this morning because my internet was out all day! So we have an evening in the bog instead, sounds spooky! I like it!

Currently Reading: Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi

Queue: Winter by Marissa Meyer

  • The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
  • The Wicked King by Holly Black
  • The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
  • Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callendar

Fun life updates!

  • I finished Horizon Zero Dawn! It’s such a fun game, and the story is sooo good and clear, it was such a fun game.
  • I started Kingdom Hearts 3 and it’s… the opposite. I have no idea what is going on and Sora is a whiny baby. Not like my gal Aloy.
  • I have library books coming soon! We can now do hold pick ups and I am SO EXCITED to say good bye to e books! I put like 10 books on hold so I’ll be good for like two months, haha.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Does anyone else feel like their brains are complete mush? I feel like I can barely string a sentence together at the moment. I think because of that I need to switch over mostly to mini reviews for a bit. I’m thinking on Fridays I’ll do a review round up of all the books I read that week, like my mini-reviews posts. Plus, my mini reviews are the most liked posts on the blog, so it might be a win-win for everyone! Who has time to read a full review? No one!

That’s all the updates from me. What books are people reading right now?

I might not read the queue in order, but these are the books I am going to read in the next couple weeks! I was disappointed, I had to DNF Nevernight. It just wasn’t my thing. I felt so uncomfortable by the first five pages that I couldn’t keep reading it. I will try reading some of Jay Kristoff’s other books at some point.

However, I finally DO have some sort of interesting life updates!

  • My husband and I went back to volunteering at the cat shelter! It’s an essential need, plus we have been going stir crazy in our house, so we now are going twice a week. It’s easy to social distance because it’s a pretty big place, and everyone wears masks and gloves so we feel safe. Plus, the KITTIES are so cute. We love them!
  • Y’all West was this weekend and I caught two virtual panels: Facing the Enemy: Hope, War and Revolution and Suckage is a Part of Writing. Both were great! The festival is going to post all of the panels soon, and I highly recommend that you check those two out.

That’s all for now friends. Hope everyone is staying safe and well!

So, I’ve pretty much given up on the idea of reading Blood Meridian right now. My heart is just feeling too heavy because of staying inside due to Coronavirus. I think I can only read epic fantasy right now or fun, contemporary romantic comedies! Even reading A Gathering of Shadows took so much concentration for me, but my current read Just Met feels like a little breath of fresh air.

I am excited that my husband and I have to go to Target this week for some necessary supplies (things we can’t get at the grocery store), so I FINALLY will be able to buy some more books! I have been trying to avoid any purchases that are not “mandatory” to help alleviate postal service workers. Plus, I don’t have much extra spending money since my job was shut down, but I do need a printed book in my life and I’m excited to get one or two!

I don’t even have any more updates for you all, other than I plan on posting my A Gathering of Shadows review sometime tomorrow! Everyone, stay safe out there and I am thinking of you in my heart!

Monday Morning in the Bog! 3/30/20

Good morning! Here is what is going on for me in the book world:

Currently reading: Nocturna by Maya Motayne

Queue:

  • Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella
  • If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
  • Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
  • Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
  • Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I’m going through books a little slower than I thought I would. I truly feel like my brain is molasses. I don’t know if this is from the lack of stimulus of being outside my house or just processing this tragedy. It’s probably a mix of both.

But as fun life updates, these are all the things I have been doing to kill time during quarantine! (Other than reading, of course, which I have been doing like 2 hours a day)

  • Writing: I have been working on my pilot called Sworn Frenemies: two former childhood enemies have to bury the hatchet when their daughters become best friends. I have a bones draft, basically wrote out the scenes I had in the outline. There is a lot of work to do but I’m proud of how much I was able to get done the last two weeks!
  • Video Games: These have been incredibly helpful against feeling sad. I finished Zelda BOTW and started playing Horizon Zero Dawn and Rayman Legends. They are all bright, big world games (well, Rayman Legends is a platform game but the colors and characters are cute and bright) and being able to climb mountains in video games has helped my sadness with not being able to climb mountains outside.
  • Adult Coloring: I have been ROCKING at my The Selection series adult coloring book. It’s a fun one because it switches between pictures and then quotes you color in. It’s brought me joy!
  • Blogging: updating the background of the blog and reading other people’s posts has reminded me of why I am doing this! I love reading people’s takes on books and finding new books to read.
  • Yoga: has kept me sane. It helps quiet my mind down and makes me feel better physically. I recommend Baron Baptiste! He has three workouts on youtube of different lengths and they kick your butt.

Hopefully some of those inspire you to find something new to do! How have you all been spending your time in quarantine?
